Cross-listing works because the same item reaches more buyers. The photos are what make it tedious: every marketplace wants something slightly different, so one listing turns into the same batch of images resized three or four times, in three or four folders, with four chances to upload the wrong set. It compounds with volume — sellers running thousands of listings across several marketplaces have watched one platform quietly change its accepted photo format or dimensions and break images everywhere else those same files were reused, turning a single spec change into a re-export of an entire catalogue.

The requirements genuinely do conflict. Amazon's main image has to be a pure white square large enough for zoom. Instagram serves at 1080 pixels wide and crops anything outside 4:5 to 1.91:1. Etsy recommends 2000 pixels on both sides but warns that files over a megabyte may fail to upload. A single compromise size satisfies none of them — it just makes the photos slightly wrong everywhere at once.
