eBay photo requirements
eBay's help centre lists 12 MB while its photo tips page specifies 7 MB for direct uploads and 12 MB for images imported from a web address. We target 7 MB so your photos upload either way.
How to resize photos for eBay
1Drop in your listing photos
Up to 50 at a time. eBay accepts HEIC natively, but converting to JPG keeps bulk-listing tools and third-party apps happy too.
2Keep 1600 px
The eBay preset targets 1600 pixels on the long edge, which is where eBay enables zoom. Going higher rarely helps buyers and only slows the upload.
3Download and list
Grab the ZIP, upload to your listing, and check that your first photo shows the item on a plain background.
eBay is unusually specific about photos. Every image must be at least 500 pixels on its longest side, and eBay recommends 1600 pixels because that is the threshold where the zoom and enlarge features switch on. Below it, buyers cannot inspect the item closely, which matters most for exactly the used and collectable items where close inspection decides the sale.
The file size limit is where eBay's own pages disagree with each other: the help centre quotes 12 MB, while eBay's photo tips page says 7 MB for a direct upload and 12 MB only when the image is pulled in from a web address. This tool targets 7 MB, which is the figure that holds in both cases.
One thing eBay is strict about: no borders, no added text, no logos and no artwork on your photos. If you have been adding a frame or a price banner, that is a listing policy violation, not a style choice.
