Etsy image requirements
Etsy publishes no hard maximum file size. Its help pages warn that files over roughly 300 KB to 1 MB may time out during upload, so this preset targets under 1 MB. Animated GIFs and transparent PNGs are not supported.
How to resize photos for Etsy
1Add your product photos
Up to 50 files at once. Etsy accepts .heic, but converting to JPG here also gets the file size down, which matters more.
2Keep it square at 2000 px
A 2000 × 2000 output clears Etsy's recommendation for both dimensions and works as a lead photo. Switch to 4:3 if your listing photos are styled landscape.

Upload the set to your listing and put the horizontal or square shot first — that is the one search results show.
Etsy recommends 2000 pixels on both width and height — not just the long edge. A square output satisfies that in one step, which is why this preset defaults to 1:1 at 2000 × 2000 pixels. Etsy also wants the first photo of a listing to be horizontal or square; a portrait lead photo gets awkwardly cropped in search results.
The catch is file size. Etsy publishes no hard limit, but warns in its own help pages that large files may fail to finish uploading — with two different thresholds mentioned across those pages, 300 KB and 1 MB. This preset therefore targets under 1 MB per photo, which at 2000 pixels means the quality gets tuned down just enough to fit.
Etsy also asks for sRGB colour. Photos from a modern iPhone are often in the wider Display P3 space, and if a marketplace strips that profile rather than converting it, colours come out flat and shifted. Every photo processed here is written out in sRGB.
