Privacy Policy

What happens to your data on this site. The short version: your photos stay on your device apart from the paid HD options you have to switch on yourself, no cookie is set for analytics unless you allow it, and an account is optional.

Your photos stay on your device

Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser. Photos you add are read from your device, processed by your own computer or phone, and written back as downloads. The same goes for the catalog converter: a supplier price list you open is parsed on your device and never uploaded. None of these files are ever transmitted to us or to anyone else.

That covers everything the site does by default, including the free background remover, which downloads a model into your browser and runs it there. We hold no photos from any of it, so there is nothing for us to lose, disclose, or delete on request.

There are two exceptions, and they are the only ones: the HD options — HD background removal, and HD enlarging of a photo that is smaller than the size it is being prepared for. Both are paid features, both are switched off unless you choose them, and both are labelled as an upload everywhere they can be chosen. When one runs, the photo is sent to our server and forwarded to the provider that does that particular piece of work: PhotoRoom for cutting the background out, Replicate for enlarging. The result is sent straight back to your browser. We do not store it, and each provider processes it only to produce that one result. With the HD options off, all of the work stays on your device as before.

What we do collect

Anonymous usage statistics. We use Umami, a cookieless analytics tool, to count page views and a small number of events such as how many photos were in a batch and which platform preset was chosen. Umami sets no cookies, stores no identifier on your device, and collects nothing that could identify you.

Your email address, only if you give it to us. If you submit the form asking to be told about new features, we store your address with Resend, our email provider, for that purpose alone. You can unsubscribe from any message we send.

Payment details, handled by our payment provider. If you buy Pro, the payment is processed by WayForPay. Card details are entered on their page, not ours; we never see or store them. We receive confirmation that an order was paid, along with the order reference.

A credit balance, if you buy a pack of HD credits. We store a randomly generated account identifier and a ledger of credits added and used against it. No name, email or address is attached to it — the credit key held in your browser is the only thing that connects you to that balance.

The email address you paid with, for as long as it takes to send you your key. Our payment provider passes us the address entered at checkout so that the licence key or credit key you have just bought reaches you by email as well as on screen. It is used for that one message; it is not added to any list, and the address itself is not stored afterwards.

A fingerprint of that address, stored with a Pro order. So that a licence key is of no use to somebody who simply finds it, we keep a one-way cryptographic fingerprint of the address a Pro purchase was made with, beside the order reference. It is not an address and cannot be turned back into one: it can only be compared with an address typed in when the key is being activated. That comparison, and a count of how often the key has been activated, is all it is used for. Credit purchases record nothing of the kind.

An email address and a password, if you choose to register. An account is optional and nothing on this site needs one. It exists for a single purpose: to hold your Pro licence key and your credit key for you, so losing the copies in your browser does not lose the things you paid for. We store the address and a hash of the password — never the password itself — plus whichever of those two keys you save. All of it is kept until you delete the account, which you can do yourself from the account page, or ask us to delete it. Deleting the account does not touch your credit balance: the balance belongs to the credit key, not to the account.

What we do not collect

We never use cookies for advertising and we run no advertising scripts. Google Analytics is the one tool here that sets cookies: it loads only if you say yes to the banner, and if you say no its script is never fetched at all. You can reopen Analytics settings from the footer at any time; withdrawing consent removes the known Google Analytics cookies and reloads the site without its script. Either way we build no profiles, and we do not sell or share data with advertisers.

We do not require an account to use anything on this site. Registering is offered, never asked for: the tools, Pro and credit packs all work with no account at all. If you do register, the cookie that keeps you signed in is the only one we set ourselves.

Metadata in your photos

Photos from phones and cameras often carry hidden metadata, including GPS coordinates showing where the picture was taken. Because our tools re-encode each image, that metadata is discarded and does not appear in the files you download.

This happens on your device as part of processing. It is a property of how the tool works, not a service we perform on your behalf.

How long anything is kept

Analytics data is retained by Umami in aggregate form and contains nothing personal. Email addresses on the announcement list are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. An account — its address, its password hash and the keys saved to it — is kept until you delete the account or ask us to. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, and a credit ledger is kept while the balance it describes still exists. The fingerprint described above stays with the Pro order record for as long as the licence does, which is indefinitely, because the licence does not expire. Photos sent for HD processing are not retained at all once the result has been returned, by us or by the provider that produced it, and neither is the address a key was mailed to.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to its processing. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email address and a payment record.

Write to us using the contact address below and we will respond. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date shown at the top of it. Material changes will be described plainly rather than buried.
